German Open Championships 20122012-09-12
This report was written by DanceSport Great Britain members George Borisov and Ada Au who competed in the GOC this year, which was the culmination of their second season of international competitions.
The German Open Championships (GOC) are arguably the biggest and most prestigious event in the DanceSport calendar today.
This year, over 4200 couples from around the world descended on Stuttgart to compete in a range of age groups and levels.
At the top, the two GrandSlam events featured almost all of the top 50 couples from the WDSF World Ranking lists. Needless to say, the show that they put on for the audience was simply superb.
In addition to the dancing, the large number of exhibition stands featuring the world’s leading dance-related brands made for an ideal opportunity to do some shopping, and to generally become acquainted with the latest fashions.
Overall, the feeling was of being immersed in a world of DanceSport, with all the emotions, the glamour, the vibrancy and of course the raw physical power that are at the heart of our sport.
We are already planning our return to the GOC next year!
